Female porcupines are only looking for a good time 8-12 hours during an annual heat. Males compete by growing, screeching, haunting guttural moans, violent biting, and using quills as weapons.

Fresh snow hides the secrets of the forest. Winter in Maine can get brutal, especially on a windy little mountain near the bay. It was not until recently I traveled enough to truly appreciate the wild, rugged land this is. It’s not for everyone. Maybe that’s why I like it so much.
